Old film & photos of Penzance High Street sought for BBC project.
The BBC Bus is coming to Penzance for ‘Turn Back Time – The High St’ – a new TV series to be screened in the Autumn. In addition to this, BBC Video Nation Network is working in partnership with West Cornwall based Awen Productions CIC to make community short films about Penzance High Street.
Do you have old film, video or photographs of the centre of Penzance you would be willing to share with a BBC project coming to town? Particularly of interest are old images of Penzance High Street including Market Jew Street, Causewayhead, Chapel Street, The Greenmarket and The Prom?
“ We want to bring to life the recent history of these streets, as told through local people and archive footage. “ says Rosemary Richards, BBC Editor Interactive and Outreach. “So if you have some video gems of these streets we’d love to know about them. We can accept Super 8 footage and video. We can’t guarantee that all submissions will be used, but we will need permission to publish material on BBC platforms; internet, radio and local television. ”
Barbara Santi, Director of Awen Productions CIC says “This is a very exciting project and we are thrilled to have been asked to partner with the BBC. The community films produced will not only be distributed by the BBC but also become part of our Tre Project – Re-discovering Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly through archive film. “Tre” is a Cornish word for home/homestead and the films of Penzance High Street will fit perfectly with the theme of ‘home’.”
If you have photos, video or film you would like us to see please email Barbara at Awen Productions at email@example.com or phone her on 01736 810 819.
Look out for details where the bus will be in Penzance during the week of 25th October 2010.
